It is never easy in Indian cricket for a player hailing from a backward or under-developed region to make a mark in the game internationally – let along making it big.

Even a cursory glance at a list of cricketers since 1932 when India first played Test cricket will drive home the message that a vast majority of them will be from areas like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore while states like Bihar, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh will have minimum representation.
